Bandhani or bandhej comes from the word " Bandh" means to tie and is a technique where different types of fabric pinching and knotting is used to resist the dye and obtain contrasting colour small square like designs all over the fabric.

Banarasi brocade is a specific woven textile all the way from the Bunkar bastis near the ghats of Varanasi made using the Jacquard loom punch card technique with gold and silver threads inserted into the Warp and Weft to make a particular motif.

Chikankari is a lucknowi embroidery technique of making herringbone stitches that act as a translucent shadow from the back of the sheer fabric , outlining from the front to build motifs . It is now also widely done on opaque cotton fabrics.

Toda is a hand embroidery technique that is carried out by the women of the Toda Community in the Nilgiris , Tamil Nadu in which symmetric geometrical motifs are created using red and black threads on a cream fabric.

Thigma is woolen tie dye technique of Ladakh that features detailed multicolour dotted patterns created with utmost attention on woolen fabrics unlike Rajasthan's Bandhani that focuses on single coloured dots.

Zardozi is an ornamental embroidery technique done using a special method of catching and  knotting of zari thread using a big Aari needle to stitch cut data, pearls , Dabka etc. onto the fabric as per the design to add a luxurious feel.
